Selva di Cadore

One of the most beautiful corners of the Dolomites: the area of Selva di Cadore, containing Santa Fosca and Pescul, is a small mountain village situated 1400 m above sea level in the heart of the Val Fiorentina valley.

Though belonging to Cadore, during the 1920s it was added to Agordino following a long dispute. Its origins can be traced back to medieval times and was involved in ironworking from the mines from which the valley takes its name ('Ferentina', from 'ferro', meaning iron). The picturesque quality of Selva di Cadore lies in its position framed by the greatest peaks of the Dolomites - Monte Pelmo, Monte Cernera, and Monte Civetta, making it the ideal holiday destination both in summer and winter.

Notwithstanding its small dimensions Selva di Cadore is equipped with all the best facilities to render your holiday the most comfortable and enjoyable. Its success in the field of tourism began 40 years ago when the Monte Civetta ski complex was erected, and hotels sprang up throughout the comune; nowadays a holiday in Selva di Cadore is one of the most sought-after in the area.

There are many ways to pass your time in Val Fiorentina, depending on when you choose to visit: winter is dominated by sports, while summer offers the possibility of many excursions throughout the splendid countryside, walking or on mountain bike. A holiday in Selva di Cadore provides interesting cultural occassions aswell: the Museo Civico Vittorino Cazzetta, in addition to its displays of archaeological, historical and palaeontological treasures, also houses the famous Primeval Man, a primitive hunter found nearby replete with all funeral relics.

All in all, both summer and winter holidays provide a wealth of entertainment in one of the most beautiful corners of the Dolomites!
