Castello di Roncade

Via Roma, 141 - 31056 Roncade (Treviso)

Description

The ‘Castello di Roncade’ is one of the best example of rural culture found in Venetian society. Situated in a picturesque town found in the Treviso province a few minutes from the Veneto province.
Entering the ‘Castello di Roncade’ immerses you into a fairly tale like environment. The majestic complexity of it’s features capture perfectly a time gone by. The main fortifications have stood the test of time well. Found between the town Church and the historical center of Roncade, it is the only Venetian Villa found with in medieval walls. The walls seem to embrace the vast gardens. A moat, similar to those found in stories from the times of knights, embraces the medieval walls with its splendid features. At each of the four corners you have the four towers that dominate the landscape, while at the entrance you see the two donjons that have the double sided eagle of the Giustinian.
Once entering you can admire a panoramic view of the Villa. A vision that inspires daydreams or visions to any who beholds it, even the most skeptic.
Following the boundary wall you can see two store rooms that were used as a granary or servants rooms. One is used for the wine cellar and bottling equipment while the second is used for the ageing of the wine and for hosting events. At the end of a sunny path you can find the majestic Villa Giustinian.
The elegant and bright entrance to the Villa confirms even within its walls the richness of the building. The salon is enclosed by glass. On one side you can see onto the gardens and from the other you can get a view on to the vineyard that make up part of the brolo. The brolo is part of the land that surrounds a castle. Today it is where we can find the vineyards. In the salon of the Villa you can admire seventh century furnishings and a splendid wood ceiling and the pastel decorated walls.

The bond between the vineyard, wines and guests is not an artificial one. It began coincidentally at the end of 1988 when the Baron Vincenzo decided to open an apartment. Until then it had been used by the caretaker and his family. Baron Vincenzo used it in order to host some German clients. They enjoyed the facilities found at the Villa and the vicinity to Venice.

The Baron then took steps to begin one of the first examples of agriturism in the area. The lodging at the ‘Castello di Roncade’ have been quickly transformed from the last minute rooms to house some clients into four apartments and will most likely expand to several more. The idea of obtaining and using four apartments within the two towers and using them to host guests in order to enjoy a high quality of life and culture that is found in the area came from the Baron Vincenzo.
