A tour in Venice: discover the thousand-year-long history of Venice with this guided visit through the main sites of the historic centre of Venice and the Doge’s Palace, including the famous Bridge of Sighs.

With this tour you will be plunged into the thousand-year-long history of Venice and enjoy a fascinating guided visit through the historic centre of Venice reaching a climax at the ancient seat of power of the Venice Republic: the prestigious Doge’s Palace.

The tour will start with a leisurely stroll to admire from the outside some of the most distinctive places of the enchanting city of Venice and will terminate inside the Doge’s Palace, to discover the places where the history of the Venice Republic was made.

Starting from St Mark’s Square, where you will listen to the description of the main monuments overlooking the square (St Mark’s Cathedral, Doge’s Palace, the Bell Tower, The Clock Tower and Procuratie), the tour will continue towards Santa Maria Formosa, where you will hear a description of the history and other unusual anecdotes of this splendid church and the nearby square. You will then move to Campo Santi Giovanni and Paolo, where the Carità Schools and the equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni are located.

The guided visit will then include those places in Venice where history and myths are entwined: after visiting the site where Marco Polo’s house once stood in Venice, you can admire from the outside the Malibran Theatre, considered the most extravagant theatre in Venice.

You will return to St Mark’s Square along the main shopping streets in Venice: le Mercerie, where precious goods from far away markets were once sold in Venice.

The second part of this fascinating tour includes a guided visit to the Doge’s Palace. The seat of the power of the formidable Venice Republic, the Doge’s Palace is one of the symbols of Venice.

Thanks to this exclusive tour of the Doge’s Palace you will be able to visit the Opera Museum, the precious Doge’s Apartments, the Institutional Chambers, the Arms Room and the Old Prisons. You will admire enchanting views from the first floor loggias, be left speechless in front of the Golden Staircase and the vivid details of the scenes decorating the interiors of the Doge’s Palace and experience the anguish of prisoners when they crossed the Bridge of Sighs. But there are many more secrets inside the Doge’s Palace in Venice…

The climax of this tour will be the famous Bridge of Sighs. Built in 1614, the Bridge of Sighs links the Doge’s Palace to the old prisons. It was covered and divided in two corridors at a later stage and derives its name from the last sigh that convicts used to breathe in the free world whilst crossing the bridge on their way out of the Doge’s Palace before being taken into the prisons.

Treat yourself to a tour that will take you to discover the fascinating history of Venice: after a stroll in the historic centre you will step into the magic of the Doge’s Palace, a masterpiece of the Venetian Gothic that celebrates the ancient Venice Republic.
