When we talk of the Dolomites we also talk about Cortina d’Ampezzo, the town which holds the crown of tourism in the mountains, seat of premium quality holiday accommodation dreamed of throughout the world.

Situated in the fabulous “amphitheatre of the Dolomites”  - the peaks of the Tofane, Cristallo and Sorapis - Cortina d'Ampezzo lies on the left bank of the river Boite, tributary of the Piave, in a sunny valley full of natural charm. Part of its fame lies in its hosting the Winter Olympics in 1956, when the highest quality structure and facilities requested for both national and international participation were installed and maintained until today.  In addition to the quasi - mythological aspect of the place, Cortina d'Ampezzo is indeed at the highest level for everything concerning winter sports: a modern system of lifts permitting access to over 110 km of slopes, qualified schools for instruction in every type of ski discipline, important facilities such as the Olympic standard ice-rink, bobsleigh run, ski jump, skating tracks and much more.

There are also the now traditional cultural activities such as exhibitions, art galleries, literary prizes and book presentations. The street Corso Italia is an always-fashionable walkway, surrounded by its exclusive boutiques.

The Dolomites take their name from the geologist who was the first to study their composition, the Frenchman Déodat de Gratet Dolomieu (1750-1801), whose statue has adorned the city of Cortina d'Ampezzo since 1958. Under the protection of the area are two national parks, one managed at a national level, the Parco delle Dolomiti Bellunesi which contains Vette Feltrine, the Monti del Sole, the Schiara, Talvena Prampér peaks, and a regional  - Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti d’Ampezzo) – with the massifs Cristallo, Tofane and Croda Rossa.
