Celebrations started a year ago as a countdown to the 500th anniversary of the birth of the greatest architect of all time, Andrea Palladio, whose art with its classical symmetry still appears innovative and continues to surprise with every view, making him admired and loved throughout the world. Already the end of 2007 witnessed important cultural events celebrating the illustrious native of Padua, who, though working throughout the Veneto region, found his true home at Vicenza, a city where he could develop and realise his miraculous ideas. 2008 sees a programme of memorable events spread all over the region, with of course Vicenza and environs providing the richest selection of events dedicated to the genial architect and creator. A plethora of interesting and diverse events, from exhibitions and guided tours of villas and historic buildings to special food and wine gatherings with menus designed to recreate the tastes and flavours of Palladios own day, enhancing the visual delights with other senses. Almost a hundred different events from now until December, all with the aim of highlighting both Palladio and his territory, itself rich in historical treasures which he saw as an inspiration and benchmark. Events are divided thematically according to the following categories:Saturday in the Villa (from 29 March to 14 June)To admire the great works of Palladio and others, and to sample the wine delicacies produced in the area. Palladian Tours (5, 12, 20, 26 April, 31 May and 18 July)Six meetings with the explanations of Grazia Boschetti and Cinzia Albertoni, and the narrative voice of the actor and theatrical writer Adriano Marcolini who follows the tracks of Palladio not only through his splendid architecture but also through the cities and countryside which hosted him. Palladian initiatives (25 May, 8 June, 5, 6 and 20 July)Tastings, boat trips along the shores of Palladian art, painting courses, visits to villas, churches, and monuments in the area of Berici, topped off with a cruise along the Riviera del Brenta complete with a visit to the villa Malcontenta to the Church of the Redeemer in Venice.Culture/Nature Sundays (6, 27 April 4, 25 May and 6 July)Guided tours to explore the territory of Vicenza and its natural beauties and cultural treasuresSundays on the Hills (from March to December, for further details see link below)45 free rendezvous to experience the lands of Vicenza.
