Biennale Cinema 65th International Cinema Festival

Director Marco Mller presents a rich programme for the 65th International Cinema Festival:every year for ten days the festival becomes the focus of all the world, attracting thousands to the city of Venice. Organized by the Venice Biennale, this years event takes place from 27 August to 6 September 2008 on the Lido, its home since its inception. It aims are to promote and aid the culture of the seventh art in all its facets. Four Italian films will be featured: Il pap di Giovanna, a costume drama by director Pupi Avati starring Silvio Orlando, Alba Rohrwacher and (in a distinctly non-typical role) Ezio Greggio, a new work by Ozpetek entitled Un giorno perfetto, with Isabella Ferrari and Valerio Mastandrea, Corsicatos Il seme della discordia with Caterina Murino and Alessandro Gassman , and finally Birdwatchers by Marco Bechis, featuring Caludio Santamaria. In addition to these home-grown talents, the international world is represented by (of course) Hollywood: George Clooney and Brad Pitt, stars of the Coen brothers Burn after Reading; Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger will be interviewed about their performances in The Burning Plan by Guillermo Arriaga; Ffally Guy Pierce and Ralph Fiennes will be promoting The Hurt Locker directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Film fans will be particularly eager for the appearance of Takeshi Kitano with his new Achilles and the Tortoise and for the master of animation Hayao Miyazaki with Ponyo on Cliff by the Sea. To highlight the occasion the grand master Ermanno Olmi will receive the golden Lion award for his career and will reveal his new Yuppi Du in a completely restored version, celebrating the return to the lagoon city of Adriano Celentano and Claudia Mori. This years President of the international jury will be the acclaimed German director Wim Wenders.
