Inauguration Centre for Contemporary Art Punta della Dogana

06 June 2009

Franois Pinault has announced the grand opening of the new Centre for Contemporary Art in Venice for Saturday 6 June 2009.

The collector, as well as being owner of the Palazzo Gritti, employed the Japanese architect Tadao Ando to completely restore the XVII century edifice of the Punto della Dogana in order to house important works of his collection. The first exhibition will coinvolve both his properties, giving him a chance to show off his wealth of treasures to the city of Venice.

The buildings will present the works in harmony with their environments: a more intimate, private atmosphere on the one side, and for the other a perspective gazing more towards the external world. The whole ensemble will give life to a dialogue between artists of diverse generations, offering a multiplicity of expression and artistic sensitivity.
