The 93rd edition of the Verona Opera Festival at the Arena Verona in 2015 is here! From 19th June to 6th September 2015 there will be at least 52 evenings devoted to the most important operas for the Arena di Verona opera festival 2015: Nabucco, Aida, Tosca, Don Giovanni, The Barber of Seville and Romeo and Juliette.

On Monday 1st June 2015, a special evening dedicated to the great music to inaugurate the Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2015: 'The show is about to begin - 2015' will involve more than 500 Italian and international artists who, accompanied by the orchestra of the Arena, Verona in Italy will provide the public with an extraordinary spectacle. Among the expected guests there will be Brian May, former guitarist and founder, together with Roger Taylor and John Deacon, of the rock band that has made the history of music, the Queen. May will perform the greatest hits of the legendary British group, along with Kerry Ellis, famous and talented performer of Broadway musicals. The great start of the opera season at the Verona Arena in 2015 will see on stage the singer Nina Zilli, who will excite the audience with the  'Back to black' song of the memorable Amy Winehouse, and the soprano Jessica Nuccio, who will present the moving song 'Memory' from the musical Cats.

In addition to these great guests, 'The show is about to start' will present the most exciting moments of the works in the program of the 2015 Arena di Verona opera season: 'The Italian Tenor' Vittorio Grigolo will play the famous painter Cavaradossi in Tosca, whilst Marco Vratogna will take the role of 'Scarpia', a role which he will also cover in the premiere of the famous opera by Giacomo Puccini scheduled for 26th June. The baritone Mario Cassi, considered one of the strongest performers of the role of Figaro, will perform in the famous 'Largo al factotum' from the Barber of Seville, a character he will play during all performances of this opera in the opera season at the Verona opera festival 2015. On stage also some of the most exciting moments of Aida, Romeo et Juliette, Nabucco and the famous Carmina Burana.

'2015 - The show is about to begin' promises to be a memorable evening thanks to the incomparable scenery that the Roman amphitheatre of Verona is creating: an event not to be missed, and so exciting that it will be broadcast on prime time on Wednesday 3rd June!

The International Opera Festival in Verona program will begin on Friday 19th June with 'Nabucco', the famous opera in four parts of Giuseppe Verdi: it will be directed by Gianfranco de Bosio (present since 1991), while the scenes will be managed by Rinaldo Olivieri. At the Arena di Verona, 'Nabucco' will initially be directed by Riccardo Frizza and, in the following evenings, by Julian Kovatchev.

From 20th June the 'queen' of the Arena in Verona: 'Aida'. Verdi's masterpiece will count no less than 18 performances, during which teachers of the highest level will take turns on the podium: Andrea Battistoni, Daniel Oren, Omer Meir Wellber and Julian Kovatchev. The premiere of this work was staged in Cairo in 1871, despite the Egyptian government having commissioned Giuseppe Verdi to inaugurate the opening of the Suez Canal, which took place in 1869. The success at La Scala Theatre in Milan in 1872  marked the beginning of the worldwide triumph of this opera. Aida at the Arena di Verona, attracts thousands of spectators from all over the world: the ancient Roman amphitheatre is especially suited to this type of representation and the extraordinary scenes prepared by Franco Zeffirelli, enhanced by costumes by Anna Anni, make the Aida at Arena di Verona unique.

From 26th June, the third title in the program of the Verona Arena: la 'Tosca'. The great opera by Giacomo Puccini will present the theatrical setting designed in 2006 by Hugo de Ana, who will also be in charge of the directing, costumes, stage scenes and lights of this great work for the entire programming of the opera at the opera season in Arena Festival of Verona.

From 4th July at the Arena Festival of Verona, 'Don Giovanni' the celebrated comic drama of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will be featured on five nights, with fantastic staging by Franco Zeffirelli, choreographed by Maria Grazia Garofoli, costumes by Maurizio Millenotti and lights by Paolo Mazzon. This extraordinary work at the Arena di Verona will see the debut of Strefano Montanari: after the consensus obtained with the baroque repertoire in theatres all over the world, the great conductor will rise for the first time on the podium of the Arena di Verona - program of 2015.

On 1st August, the first of the five evenings dedicated to the Barber of Seville will be performed: the Arena opera festival, during the performances, will be transformed into a large garden designed in 2007 by Hugo de Ana, with the addition of lively choreography by Leda Lojodice and the fascinating giant roses featured at the Opera Museum of AMO at Palazzo Forti. The comic drama in two acts by Gioachino Rossini on stage at this year's Opera Festival in Verona, will see the debut of James Sagripanti, a young and talented conductor.

The opera festival in Verona continues with the unmissable 'Romeo et Juliette': from 8th August, the famous opera, in five acts, by Charles Gounod will be staged for three evenings under the direction of the magical wand of Daniel Oren. For the fifth consecutive time, the direction will be entrusted to Francesco Michele who will give the stage a medieval touch mixed with a touch of rock; Edoardo Sanchi will take care of the sets, with costumes by Silvia Aymonimo, Nikos Lagousakos for the choreography and Paolo Mazzon in charge of the lights. Romeo et Juliette at the Verona Arena is the most romantic Verona Arena concerts in 2015 and must be seen!

Also, this year the Verona Arena Foundation wanted to give its audience three special events that will enrich the calendar of the Arena Verona program, 2015. On 22nd July one of the most sought appointments with the international dance will return: Roberto Bolle at the Arena di Verona 2015. The most famous Italian dancer, known worldwide for his extraordinary skills, last season obtained an incredible success in Verona. His show, which saw him dancing with great dancers from around the world, was sold out ... Arena di Verona in 2015, Roberto Bolle at the Arena Verona will again be accompanied by the Orchestra of the Arena directed by Julian Kovatchev.

On 24th July the spotlight will turn to the Carmen Gala Concert: the 93rd Opera Festival in Verona will pay homage to the famous work of Georges Bizet, performed for the first time at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in 1875. The main character will be the talented Anita Rachvelishvili who, after her debut at the La Scala Theatre in 2009, has become the most requested to cover the role of Carmen in the main theatres around the world. The desperate lover Don Jose will be interpreted by the Italian tenor Carlo Ventre, while Dalibor Jenis and Carmen Giannattasio, artists highly appreciated by the Arena public, will assume the role of Escamillo and Micaela. In this special gala evening devoted to opera at the Arena di Verona the surprises will not miss: Jacob Reuven, outstanding mandolin, will enchant the audience with the execution of the Asturias note by Isaac Albéniz, while the young prodigy violinist, Giovanni Andrea Zanon, will play the brilliant Carmen Fantasy by Pablo de Sarasate.

On 25th August, it will be the turn of the famous scenic cantata of Carl Orff, Carmina Burana. At the Verona Arena 2015, the notes of the medieval poetic songs will resonate within the ancient walls of the Roman amphitheatre, accompanied by the Arena Orchestra and Choir directed again by Maestro Andrea Battistoni.

Every year, thousands of opera lovers attend the most famous operas at the Arena di Verona program. In 2015 expectations will certainly not be disappointed!
