A new concert season gets underway on Saturday 4th April at the Theological College of the Basilica of Saint Antonys church in Padua, beginning at 5p.m. With a total of three dates the occasion will host soloists and chamber orchestras of both national and international repute, providing a wonderful opportunity for the fans of this event which has now reached its fifteenth year.Saturdays at il Santo runs in conjunction with the XIV Musical Season Citt di Padua, scheduled for the autumn.The first performance sees Eugenia Cherkasova conducting a programme including music by Bach, Scarlatti, Mendelssohn and De Sarasate. The second half of the concert offers a homage to some of the most important Russian composers, both traditional and contemporary. Saturday 18 April sees the return of the Roma quartet, with a programme celebrating Haydn (commemorating the bicentennial of his death) and Mendelssohn (the bicentennial of his birth).The final performance takes place on Saturday 9 May, again at 5 p.m., with the internationally famous Russian pianist Vovka Ashkenazy, who will later this year embark on an Italian tour, including a prestigious date in the Sala Verdi at Milan with the United Europe Chamber Orchestra.
