Verona Folk Estate 2009

Folk, classical, and world musicThis summer sees the return of Verona Folk, the international festival considered one of the most important in the calendar. The fifth edition takes place from 23 June at the Teatro Romano of Verona, with Massimo Bubbola performing from his album dedicated to Fabrizio De Andr, with whom he has written over 20 songs now regarded as classics. The 2 July, at the Parco Ai Cotoni di San Giovanni Lupatoto, sees a free concert by Pippo Pollina, the refined Sicilian singer admired by among others Franco Battiato. On 9 July, in the main square of Valeggio, a change of genre moves us to the piano of contemporary composer Ludovico Einaudi. The 15 July reverts to folk music with Stefano Cisco Bellotti, ex-singer of Modena City Ramblers, which takes place in the castle of Montorio. 17 July in main square of Zevio a free concerti by Edoardo Bennato.26 July in the beautiful setting of Villa Venier at Sommacampagna is the date for the only international artist, the young talented singer from Mali Rokia Traor, pupil of the great Al Farka Tour. The grande finale of Verona Folk 2009 is on Friday31 July, at Castello di Zevio, with an original show by Simone Cristicchi and the choir of the Minatori di Santa Fiora, rediscovering the tradition of popular Italian music.
