The 64th edition of Verona Theatre Summer the festival that livens up the summer nights in Verona with concerts, plays and dance shows - will kick off on 28 July.Verona will play host to this great festival until 25 August, now an eagerly awaited classic amongst the events in Verona.The first edition of Verona Theatre Summer took place on 26 June, 1948 with an evening dedicated to Romeo and Juliet, the Shakespeares classic set in Verona. In the following years, Verona Summer Theatre grew to include two additional sections: dance in the Sixties and jazz in the Seventies, which brought to Verona great stars such as Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald.As usual, Verona Summer Theatre 2012 will take place in the historic Verona Roman Theatre, and additionally the beautiful courtyard at Corte Mercato Vecchio, which will host extra shows for the younger ones.Following a tried and tested arrangement, Verona Summer Theatre will include three sections:Verona Jazz, fourteen evening shows with plays and fifteen dance shows. Additionally, from 6 to 31 July, Corte Mercato Vecchio in Verona will include an extra array of plays and dance shows.Verona Theatre Summer will offer three Verona Jazz events (28-29-30 July with two concerts on each one in the enchanting surroundings of the Verona Roman Theatre. On the stage of Verona Jazz Festival 2012 there will be: Chris Cornell, Gino Paoli with Flavio Boltro, Danilo Rea, Rosaio Bonaccorso and Roberto Gatto, Maria Gadu.Plays in Verona will be in the name of Shakespeare, continuing on with the tradition that has established Verona Summer Theatre as one of the most important Shakespeare festivals after the Stratford-Upon-Avon. Before the awaited Verona Shakespeare Festival, Marco Paolini will kick start Verona Summer Theatre with Il Milione.The 2012 dance section will bring to Verona important shows of international groups from Spain and Argentina, as well as a tribute show to Nino Rota from the Arena Ballet and several classics from the early 20th century.In the scenic Corte Mercato Vecchio, Verona Summer Theatre will showcase 6 dance shows and 4 plays over 17 evenings in a more intimate atmosphere and for a smaller audience.
