Veronese Summer Theater Festival

Celebrating 60 years of summer programmes in Verona, this years event is divided into 3 sections, transforming the city into a holiday for residents and providing further incentives for tourists. From 18 July until 30 August the city offers the best in jazz, theatre and dance, enhancing the beauty and attractions of the city itself. Beginning with Verona Jazz, with two evenings in the Teatro Roman and three in the Corte Mercato Vecchio, featuring among others the Aki Takase Silke Eberhard Duo and Chucho Valdes Quintet (27/06); Stanley Cowell and Sao Paulo Underground (28/06 as well as as a concert in the Arena by Carlos Santana (30/06). The Shakespeare Festival runs the whole month of July with five national premieres (four prose plus one dance) in the ancient Teatro Romano, street performances and numberous other events in the medieval Corte Mercato Vecchio and 17th century Giusti Gardens: altogether more than 70 shows and 500 artists from all over Europe will be taking part. August is dedicated to the world of dance: 14 evenings alternating between the Teatro Romano and the Cortile Mercato Vecchio. The Giusti Gardens also sees local amatuer dramatic troupes in period costumes providing entertainment with Shakespearean walks in the park. The whole concludes with a cinema programme dedicated to Kenneth Branagh in the Cortile Mercato Vecchio from 20 - 25 July.
