Our fascinating Palazzo Ducale Venice Tour takes you to the most important places of the ancient Republic of Venice, the richly decorated rooms of the Doge's Apartment with its large enclosed courtyard, up to the Armoury, the terrible dungeons and the famous Venice Bridge of sighs: a complete visit to learn and fully appreciate the splendid Doge's Palace in Venice, Italy.

A detailed guided tour that will show you the treasures hidden in the Doge's Palace in Venice, from the masterpieces of the great artists who helped to enhance the splendour of the Republic of Venice to the sumptuous details of the sculptures and decorative elements.

The duration of the Doge's Palace tour in Venice will be about an hour, during which you can admire the Opera Museum, which houses the ancient capitals of the porch and portico of Doge's Palace, which form a fascinating allegorical 'speech' balanced between the sacred and the profane, history and legend, astronomy and astrology in a kind of poem in stone with human figures, animals, plants, symbols and signs of the zodiac, the ancient honour entrance of the Doge's Palace, the Giant's Staircase, with the two statues of Mars and Neptune sculpted by Sansovino, the Lodge Atrium, from which you can admire the picturesque views of the courtyard of the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Square, the famous Golden Staircase, with marble statues dedicated to Atlas and Hercules, elegant surroundings where the history of the Republic of Venice was determined, the Institutional Chambers, outlined by a decorative program that celebrates the functions and virtues of Venice.

Our tour also includes a visit to the famous Sighs Bridge Venice, Italy, which connects the Doge's Palace to the New Prisons. Built in 1614, the Bridge of Sighs was later covered and divided into two parallel corridors connected to a stair that leads from the Wells to the Piombi (the Leads). Its sad nickname refers to the convicts who, when crossing it, exhaled their last breath in freedom before serving their sentences in the prisons of Venice.

'Interesting walk through history'

Tour
Skip the line: Doge's Palace Guided Tour

Our family really enjoyed our visit to the Doge's Palace. It was a very interesting and informative walk through history. We liked that she took her time in each area to explain many facts and did not rush. The only complaint we have is the checking in process. It was a little chaotic and could be improved. As we didn't travel with a portable printer we had to race around to various hotels to get our confirmation booking receipt and tickets printed as stated when we booked only paper tickets would be accepted only to find out when we checked in we could use our iphone.

Strenghts

Guide was friendly & knowledgeable.

Weaknesses

Checking in process needs improvement

Dear Tiffany,

we are pleased you appreciated the tour despite the little confusion about the voucher. A paper copy of the voucher is required by our supplier and therefore we have to notify this information to our customers. Anyway, we fully understand that it is not always possible to have a printer while travelling... If you had written to us an email explaining the problem, we would have advised the staff on duty at the meeting point that you would have shown the voucher on your mobile.

Best regards,

'Would not take another tour with this guide'

Tour
Skip the line: Doge's Palace Guided Tour

our guide was very knowledgable and well-versed in the history of the Doge's Palace, but honestly did not seem to enjoy sharing that information. I am an art history major and even I found the information she shared tedious at times. I would have enjoyed more history and more enthusiasm and a little less analysis of each painting. She spoke in a monotone voice. She barely paused and did not allow for any questions, seemed disinterested in any interaction with the group. Perhaps a result of the hearing device and her microphone, but there were many times when it was difficult to hear her - either because she was moving too fast or she was too far ahead of us or because of external noises. She made no adjustments to her delivery. We had a tour immediately following with a different guide and different devices and the sound was much better.

Strenghts

thorough, knowledgable,

Weaknesses

monotone - no interaction with the group

Dear Kiki,

we are sorry you were not completely satisfied with this tour. Actually, the quality of the guide service is very important for any company selling tours and activities, and this is why we always pay great attention to selecting motivated and expert guides.
The guide in charge with your tour is known as a friendly and positive person, who often gives precious tips and information to the participants in the tours… Unfortunately it might happen that, especially during the peak days of July and August, even the most professional and friendly guide of the world might not behave according to the usual quality standards. We have already sent your feedback to the guide and hope she will take it into consideration in order to improve her working style. As for the problem with the listening device, probably due to the large size of the group and consequent high background noises, we are working in order to reduce the size of the tour groups and allow our customers to enjoy a better experience.

Best regards,

'Doge's Palace Guided Tour'

Tour
Skip the line: Doge's Palace Guided Tour

Very nice visit to the palace, with a very professional guide, who was permanently able to capture our attention. As for the palace, well, magnificent!

Strenghts

The monument's grandiosity, richess and elegance. The guide's perfotrmance.

Weaknesses

The meeting point (outside the palace, in the Piazza, by a comercial place) is awkward and can lead people to think wether there was some kind of mistake in the voucher.

Reply by venetoinside.com Staff

Dear jomalofe,

thank you for your comment. As for the meeting point, it has been chosen by the tour organizers in order to avoid any possibile misunderstanding… St. Mark’s Square is always crowded and so it is not easy to find a place immediately recognizable and clearly signaled! At the beginning, the meeting point was just ‘under the Clock Tower’ but it was not clear enough to many of our customers. Hence the need to be more clear and specify a precise place under the tower.

'Doges Palace'

While taking a cruise that ended in Venice, we received a tip from another cruiser about the Skip The Line website. We were able to book the tour while still on the ship and avoid standing in long lines. The instructions given on the voucher were easy to follow and we exchanged the voucher for the six tickets we had ordered. Entry to the palace was expedited and we had a great tour of this magnificent structure. Our tour guide was an expert on the history of Venice, especially this building. The only drawback to the tour was the inconsistency of the listening devices.

Strenghts

Knowledge of tour guide

Weaknesses

Deficiencies in listening devices

Reply by venetoinside.com Staff

Dear Jeff M, North Wales, PA,

we are pleased you appreciated the tour and our guide! As for the listening devices, we are sorry that they seemed not to work properly. In fact this kind of problem has already been observed with large groups: the higher background noise, that is usually typical of large groups of people, may cause problems in listening through the headphones. We apologize for the inconvenience!

'Good tour...felt rushed'

Tour
Skip the line: Doge's Palace Guided Tour

Hit the major highlights of the palace and the guide spoke perfect English. However, most of the tour group were headed to St. Mark's next door so I felt a little rushed. The tour was supposed to be longer than it actually lasted so I was disappointed. I had taken a tour last year with the same company where no one was going on to another tour. The other one was much better!

Strenghts

Nice guide, knowledgeable.

Weaknesses

Shorter than expected...some areas felt rushed!

Reply by venetoinside.com Staff

Dear SW,

we are sorry you were not completely satisfied with the tour! As we specify online, the new security measures at the entrance of the Doge’s Palace may cause a protraction of the usual waiting time to access with consequent reduction of the time at disposal to do the tour… Unfortunately, the duration of the tour starts at the departure time indicated both online and on the voucher and our guides have always to respect these times because there could be some participants that have booked other tours, such as the ones you said that were headed to St. Mark’s Basilica.. We apologize for any inconvenience.

we are sorry you were not completely satisfied with this tour. Unfortunately the new security measures concerning the entrance into the Doge’s Palace and into the major Venice museums might cause delays to visitors. Although there wasn't a line to skip when we took the tour in October, the guided part was well worth it. We discovered far more than we would have done had we wondered around by ourselves. The highlight was the walk over the bridge of sighs.
