4) WHY VISIT VILLA LA ROTONDA?

La Rotonda is the most famous villa designed by Andrea Palladio: a UNESCO World Heritage Site - like the city of Vicenza and the other Palladian villas - it is one of the most extraordinary buildings in the history of Renaissance architecture.

The exterior

Here Palladio succeeds in an impossible feat, merging two apparently irreconcilable geometric elements such as cube and sphere. He designed a building with a square plan that develops around the central hall, dominated by the dome. The four facades are identical, each with a staircase and an elegant Ionic colonnade.

The result is amazing. Villa La Rotonda is elegant, balanced, graceful. It is solid and at the same time made dynamic by the alternation of full and empty volumes. And by the play of light and shadow created by the nature that surrounds it. The unique, almost osmotic relationship with the landscape makes the villa a timeless symbol of perfection and harmony.

The interior and the historic home

Upon entering, you will be immediately captivated by the high dome and its frescoes, but soon you will also glimpse at the side rooms with family memories, fireplaces and time-honored living rooms. La Rotonda is in fact a private residence and still the home of its current owners.

Building began in 1567 at the behest of Paolo Almerico, a cultured clergyman from Vicenza, as a "buen retiro" to spend his retirement on its hills. It then passed to the Capra family and then to the Valmarana family - hence its full name Villa Almerico Capra Valmarana.

The Valmarana family allowed the interior of the villa to be opened to the public in 1986 (previously it was only possible to visit it from the outside). Today you can visit the splendid frescoed rooms and the interior on the piano nobile independently or with a guided tour.

Are you looking for a unique opportunity to capture the true soul of Villa La Rotonda and learn all its secrets? Book a private visit accompanied by the noble owners: an exclusive tour also including the private rooms closed to the public, told by those who live there and look after them with passion.
