Located in Luvigliano di Torreglia, Villa dei Vescovi is one of the most charming villas in the entire area of Padua, a harmonious blend of Renaissance elegance and Roman classicism. Designed by the Venetian nobleman Alvise Cornaro at the behest of Francesco Pisani -bishop of Padua from 1524 to 1564 - the Villa soon became a meeting place for enlightened intellectuals. In the second half of the 16th century Pisani's heirs decided to expand the structure, adding a square courtyard surrounded by a crenellated wall and moving the main entrance to the west: today Villa dei Vescovi, Padova, is still accessed from the western courtyard, through a double staircase that leads directly to the main floor.

The interior of the Villa is particularly sumptuous: on the main floor, where there is the Hall of the Figure all’Antica, the Hall of Putto, the Hall of Apollo and Orfeo and the bishop’s private rooms, you can admire some of the splendid frescoes made by the Flemish painter Lambert Sustris in 1542-1543. Unfortunately, many of the striking wall decorations depicting rural landscapes and mythological figures have been lost during the various renovations of the interiors.

During the Second World War, Villa dei Vesovi in Luvigliano became a refuge for evacuees, while in the following years it was used by the Padua Curia as a center for educational activities and spiritual retreats. In 1962 the Honorable Vittorio Olcese bought the villa and lived in it until his death in 1992. In his memory and to respect his wishes, Maria Teresa Olcese and Pierpaolo Valoti, in 2005, decided to donate Villa dei Vescovi in Padova to the FAI (Fondo Ambiente Italiano).

In 2011, after extensive renovation works that lasted four years, Villa dei Vescovi finally opened its doors to the public. Inside, in addition to rare antique furniture, there are some panels depicting the various construction phases and the recent renovation works of the building.

Villa dei Vescovi in Luvigliano di Torreglia is located in the heart of the Euganean Hills: the loggias with the portico and the surrounding gardens allow visitors to feel immersed in the relaxing and charming beauty of nature.

Inside the Villa there are two apartments used as a guest house while the original farm buildings located near the entrance house the ticket office, bookshop and the wine shop 'Strada del Vino e Colli Euganei'.

The ancient complex is surrounded by mesmerizing views where vineyards dominate the horizon giving rise to a magical combination of art and taste, history and tradition. This is why we believe that to make the visit to the villa truly complete, you should treat yourself to a glass of local wine. You will taste a wine unique in its kind, which encapsulates all the characteristics of the Euganean Hills and embodies the very essence of this lush territory: the particular microclimate, the soil of volcanic origin with the marl and dry elements of the slate deposits contribute to making the wine truly unique.
