Felicit has always had to work since she was a child, until, on the death of her parents she is taken by a farmer to look after his cattle. A brief and unhappy love story enfolds, her only romantic adventure. Later she is taken on as a domestic help, having dedicated all her life to the service of others, to the church, to her home and her beloved parot, notwithstanding the great hurt and deceipt suffered at the hands of others. A life lived alone, and alone she will end her life.
