Back again this year the long-awaited opera season at the Verona Arena Opera Festival 2019! From 21 June to 7 September, the program of the Verona Opera Festival 2019 will span over three packed months to showcase 5 operas, three special events, 51 stagings, 80 solo artists from around the world... Do not miss the 97th Opera Festival in Verona!

The Arena di Verona Opera Festival in 2019 presents five productions: Carmen by Georges Bizet, Aida, La Traviata and Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi and Tosca by Giacomo Puccini.

Grand debut at the Arena Verona for La Traviata, which opens the Verona opera season on 21 June with a new poignant and insightful production resulting from the profound interpretation of the great Italian Master of directing Franco Zeffirelli.

22 June sees the beginning of the long programming of Aida at the Verona Arena: the most represented opera of the festival, it has become a symbol of the Verona opera festival program. For the 2019 Verona Opera festival schedule, Verdi's opera will be staged with the dazzling production directed by Gianfranco de Bosio in 1982 based on a reinterpretation of the first edition of Aida at the Arena in Verona staged by Ettore Fagiuoli in 1913. This year, however, there will be some new interesting elements. The choreography is entrusted to Susanna Egri, who will bring to the stage the results of a year-long period of work and research to recall the nineteenth-century fashion of Verdi’s score whose most recent historical traces dated back to 1913.

From 29 June Il Trovatore will be staged for 5 evenings with the set design created by Franco Zeffirelli in 2001 for direction and scenes, with costume designed by Raimonda Gaetani.

Next on stage will be Carmen, one of the most popular operas of the Verona Opera Festival, with the setting designed for the 2018 Arena Opera Festival by Argentine Hugo de Ana, who is in charge of the direction, scenes and costumes. The staging of Carmen will be once again forwarded to 1930s, about a hundred years after the libretto was compiled and a time laden with important events that contribute to enhancing the quest for independence and freedom of the protagonist who, during her entire life, stood up to male arrogance and society’s hostility towards her gypsy roots.

The acclaimed production of Puccini’s Tosca by the great Argentine director, set and costume designer Hugo de Ana will be staged from 10 August at 20.45 for five performances, with the refined and iconic 2006 production.
