Benigni and Branduardi celebrate Saint Anthony's day

The feast day of the patron saint of Padua welcomes visitors from all over the world who come to take part in the solemn procession which winds through the old town centre g the relics and statue of the Portugese priest who died here in 1231. The 13 June 2008 celebrates the 777th anniversary of his death, and to commemorate this occasion many events have been planned, from liturgical celebrations to theatrical performances, historical re-enactments and seminars, all stretching over the whole month. Among the many dates scheduled include 2 free events with Angelo Branduardi and Roberto Benigni. The troubador Branduardis work La Lauda di Francesco Friday 20 June at the sacristy of the Basilica del Santo, a work which combines recital, dance and music. The dramatic Lauda ( praise) is a poeti composition deriving from the Song of Songs aimed at bringing the people closer to religion, an aim echoed by Dantes Commedia. Benignis free performance takes place on Sunday 22 June in the Prato della Valle. The Tuscan comic will recite this work of the poet, offering parallels with the world of today. A true meeting of art with the spirit, offering two unmissable events.
