The 46th edition of the Biennale Theatre will take place from 20 July to 5 August 2018: Venice is ready to host a rich program of events, activities and workshops on a festival that represents a time of sharing between artists, scholars and enthusiasts!

Directed by Antonio Latella, who has been assigned the direction of the International Theatre Festival in Venice for the four-year period 2017-2020, the Theatre Biennale Venice - 2018 program focuses on the dichotomy Actor - Performer. Second Act: Actor / Performer will involve several disciplines: choreography, direction, music, plastic arts, juggling, puppetery, mimes will all combine in the various shows on the calendar. Taking the form of mini-personals, as wanted by the director of the Biennale Theatre Venice as early as last year, the artists are invited to the festival with lots of performances lined up... The result is a highly-attended festival which will feature 31 titles, including 20 new ones, 6 of which will be premieres!

Again this year there will be a successful integration of performances and workshops which sees actors, playwrights and directors become masters of the young artists selected to take part in the Biennale College Theatre. The project, which has been successfully developed in other sectors of the Venice Biennale, sees emerging artists work side by side to great teachers of international fame, offering them a real possibility of professional and personal growth. The 2018 Biennale College Theater Summer School offers drama, directing, acting, photography and performative art workshops focusing on the theme of kissing.

In 2018 there will also be a new session of the Biennale Teatro Registi Under 30 project and a new call for under-40 screen writers, called to deal with current times.

The packed Biennale Theatre Venice 2018 program will see on stage various contemporary authors who will present crime stories, thrillers, mistery, horror and fantasy stories, and slapstick actions - a sort of micro-stories that tell the real life in a different way or that reflect our perception of reality.

We’d like to point out Davy Pieters' How Did I Die - 30 years old, Dutch, this artist uses video tuber techniques to rebuild a murder involving the Amsterdam police from multiple points of view. Another noteworthy show is Dreamed apparatus by Clement Layes – a frenchman established in Berlin, having studied choreography, theater, circus arts, explores everyday life and its objects with a strong sense of humor : an installation of small daily episodes which make our dreams less calm; Jeris by Gisèle Vienne – a 40 year-old French-Austrian with a specialization in the art of puppets is able to make the immobility of the artificial body interact with the dynamism of the natural one – he ‘reconstructs' the crimes of the serial killer Dean Corll thanks the use of a ventriloquist and puppets. And again, the performances of the Theater Biennale Venice will also feature When I die – A ghost story with music by Thomas Luz - a Swiss director and musician who likes to experiment with musical theater - inspired by the story of the medium Rosemary Brown; Ensemble Ensemble by Vincent Thomasset - French author, director and choreographer who works on language and its facets - proposes a choreography inspired by the intimate diaries of a woman found in an abandoned loft; Orestea signed by the Anagoor group - artistic group where performing arts, philosophy and literature come into dialogue - archetype of all crime stories; ...

These are just a few of the shows in the program, let's have a look in more detail at the rich calendar of the 46th Venice Biennale Theater Festival.
