Dolomites Events 2012: Alpiniadi at Falcade Belluno Province

From 8 11 March 2012, Falcade, in the heart of the Belluno Province, will host the 1st edition of the Alpiniadi event, encompassing for the first time all the championships of the Italian Alpines Association. A renowned holiday resort, Falcade is located in the enchanting Biois valley, surrounded by the picturesque Pale of San Martino, the Focobon mountain group and Mount Civetta.

Situated in the Belluno Province and in the heart of the fantastic Dolomites, Falcade boasts over 100 kilometres of alpine skiing runs and around 60 kilometres of cross-country skiing, on top of numerous ski-mountaineering routes.

One should not forget Nordic skiing, ice skating, snowshoe walks and many other opportunities for entertainment on the snow of the Dolomites. The choice of Falcade has not been accidental this is indeed the land of the Alpines, profoundly linked to the origins of the National Alpines Association. The event Alpiniadi is organized by the Belluno branch of the association and those of the Biois and Agordo valleys in collaboration with other local organizations, under the supervision of the National Alpines Association. During this unique event - as it is the first time different Italian Championships of the National Alpines Associations will be held together the accolades for the Italian champions of cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and ski-mountaineering will be handed out. The races of the three activities practiced by the Alpines - cross-country skiing, alpine skiing and ski-mountaineering will be take place mainly at Falcade, but will also involve the surrounding villages of the Belluno Province. The cross-country Championship will take place on the Franco Manfroi track at Canale dAgordo.

Giant slalom races will be hosted at Falcade (on the pistes Panoramica and Laresei). The unmatched scenery of the Valfredda will instead play host to the ski-mountaineering competition. This ensures that the event will represent both a moment of agonistic confrontation and the opportunity to bring a multitude of people in close contact with these mountains and the National Alpines Association. The event will kick off at Falcade in the afternoon of 8 March, with the official opening, and will continue for the following days with the ski-mountaineering, cross-country and giant slalom skiing races, until the closing on Sunday 11 March.

In addition, there is a snowshoe race open to all and a war memorial moment will be held on Saturday 10th in the surrounding valleys with a service in the church of Falcade at 6pm. On Friday 9th and Saturday 10th, the event will be livened up with the display of sport videos and musical performances aimed at getting the local population and the athletes united together for this great event in the name of sport, friendship and brotherhood, which are fundamental values of the National Alpines Association. Falcade and the Belluno Province are all set for the hosting of this great event of the National Alpines Association, which will bring people closer to the extraordinary Dolomites during a weekend in the name of skiing, entertainment, music and fun for all those passionate about mountains.
