The show is part of the event SMS Venice which takes place betwen the 7th and 21st July, transforming Piazza San Marco into a giant stage for internationally renowned artists, events, and exhibitions. SMS Venice (the acronym for Saint Marks Square and Short Message System through the support of sponsers and the ending of SMS text messages, provides a campaign for the collection of funds for the custody and conservation of Piaza San Marco, a UNESCO heritage site. The long-awaited concert of Elton John offers a key moment in a rich and exuberant calendar.
Elton John formed with wordsmith Bernie Taupin one of the most famous and prolific songwriting partnerships in the history of contemporary music. In 1994 the artist entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, while in 1998 he was knighted.
Among his countless hits are Candle in the Wind (originally dedicated to Marilyn and later to Lady Diana Your Song, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, Tiny dancer, Sacrifice and Rocket Man. Elton John has celebrated each decade with a succession of hits, crossing genres and fashions yet always maintaining his trademark style and virtuosity. In 1994 he won the Oscar for the song Can You Feel the Love Tonight composed with Tim Rice for the film The Lion King.With Elton John the piano made its comeback as a true instrument of rock and roll, during an era when the electric guitar was dominant and acts such as Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard were already considered pass .
