From 06 December 2014 to 16 March 2015
On 6th December 2014 one of the rarest and most interesting exhibitions in Venice, Italy opens to the public: the Correr Museum exhibitions welcomes 'Poesia della Luce NGA Washington Drawings', for a major art exhibition in Venice that celebrates the art and the myths of the lagoon city, a source of inspiration for generations of great Italian and international artists.
The Venice exhibitions in 2015 of NGA Washington drawings at the Correr Museum will present more than 130 works created in Venice between the 15th and the 19th centuries, during the heyday of the lagoon city, when the Venetian Republic was considered the cradle of the most talented and finest artists both Italian and foreigners.
Among the Venice art exhibitions in 2014, 'Poetry of Light, NGA Washington Drawings is certainly the most original housed at the Correr Museum and it will remain open until 15th March 2015.
You will be fascinated by this unprecedented 2015 art exhibition in Venice: quick sketches, models, preparatory drawings, finished works and masterpieces by our own artists such as Mantegna, Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Tiepolo, Guardi and Romanino (whose signed drawing 'Madonna and Child, Saint Anthony, Saint Francis and a donor' is presented in a totally exceptional way), but also foreigners namely, James McNeill Whistler, Rudolf von Alt and John Singer Sargent who, after falling in love with Venice, have used it as a background of their works, taking inspiration from the colours, shapes and atmosphere that only a city like Venice can offer. Housed in one of the most fascinating venues of Venice, the Correr Museum in Venice, the exhibition 'Poetry of Light' traces four centuries of Venetian art to explore the graphics capabilities of these great artists and the different interpretations that they have attributed to the city and to its immortal myth.
On display at the Correr Museum 2014/2015 a careful selection of works of art characterised by the play of shadows and light, emotions, lines, shapes and movement created by a careful exploration of light and its infinite possibilities.
This exceptional Venice exhibitions of 'Poetry of Light' at the Correr Museum is organized by theWashington National Gallery of Art in collaboration with the Civic Museums Foundation, under the supervision of Andrew Robison, senior curator of the National gallery of art for Washington exhibitions. A unique opportunity to see these extraordinary works live that, for their sophistication and extreme fragility, have rarely left the American museum.
The 2015 Venice exhibition at the Correr Museum: 'Poetry of Light' - starts from the Renaissance period, with drawings by Giovanni Bellini, Andrea Mantegna and Vittore Carpaccio, whose wonderful 'Sacred Conversation' is presented. The art exhibition in Venice continues with Durer, Giorgione, Lorenzo Lotto, Sebastiano del Piombo and Titian. The 16th century section offers works carried out by Jacopo Bassano, Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane and Paolo Veronese. The 18th century section shows drawings by Canaletto in Venice, and also of other great painters like Francesco Guardi and Bernardo Bellotto, without forgetting another long series of examples which in many cases have never been exhibited in Italy: Sebastiano Ricci, Antonio Guardi, Antonio Pellegrini, Giambattista Piazzetta, 12 works by Giambattista Tiepolo and Giovanni Battista Piranesi, whose collection at the National Gallery of Art, Washington is one of the one in the world. The 2015 Venice exhibitions on the drawings of the National Gallery of Art in Washington comes to an end with the evocative works of John Singer Sargent and James McNeill Whistler.
