Cinema and sports in two events in the heart of the Dolomites!
From 14 March 2016 to 27 March 2016
In the rich calendar of Dolomites events in Cortina, March plays a leading role! In fact some very interesting events are marked on the calendar: the Cortinametraggio 2016 short film festival in Italy and Punta Nera Freeride Cortina trophy.
Cortinametraggio film festival in Italy will be held from 14 to 20 March while the following weekend the Punta Nera Freeride Cortina d'Ampezzo Challenge Trophy will bring to Cortina adrenaline and the spectacle of freeride Cortina competitions: two great events in the Dolomites in March 2016 to welcome the spring in the beautiful scenery of the Pearl of the Dolomites!
Cortinametraggio - International Short Film Festival in Italy
Traditional event for all movie fans, the Cortina film festival will offer seven days (14 to 20 March) of screenings, workshops, meetings, tributes, exhibits and curiosities dedicated to short films.
Launched in the 90s as an innovative showcase for the Cortina film festival, Cortinametraggio is a short genre film festival that offers visibility to emerging filmmakers with the aim of promoting interaction between film and the audience. After a short pause, in 2010 this movie festival in Italy was revived in a totally new version that has captivated the public and the experts in the industry. Cortinametraggio in 2016 celebrates its 11th edition, an important milestone that has established it as one of the best Italian festivals dedicated to short films!
In recent editions, the protagonists of the competition, so called CortiComedy - Italian short films of fiction and comedy genre presented by young directors - have been joined by many other interesting events, including: Cortinametraggio Booktrailer, a novel combination between film and publishing to encourage reading through short films that highlight the essence and the real atmosphere of a book, and Webseries, a section dedicated to Italian films that are screened only on the web.
Important collaborations with Rai, National Union of Italian Film Journalists, Experimental Centre of Cinematography and the National Short Film Centre testify to the success and interest around the Cortina film festival, which over the years has seen artists the likes of Ricky Tognazzi, Paolo Genovese, Veronica Pivetti, Cinzia Th Torrini, Omar Pedrini, Jane Alexander, Enrico Lo Verso, Maurizio Mattioli and many other famous stars of Italian cinema parading on its red carpet.
Besides CortiComedy, Booktrailers and Webseries, the Cortinametraggio international film festival 2016 program opens with a new feature: a high-impact logo, which still keeps within it the fossil fish that recalls the origins of Cortina; an event dedicated to the beautiful Anna Magnani 60 years after she won the Academy Award and finally the final award ceremony in the Square to ensure close involvement of the city in this Cortina top event! The numerous awards up for grabs at Cortinametraggio - prizes available for the CortiComedy, Booktrailers and Webseries sections plus some honourable mentions - will be awarded as usual by specialist juries composed of journalists, actors and prominent directors.
In addition to the Eden Cinema - the historic location of Cortinametraggio - events scheduled in 2016 will be based at the Grand Hotel Savoia, where there will be presentations, cocktails, food and wine gatherings.
Conferences dedicated to cinema and its protagonists, meetings and book presentations complement the rich Cortinametraggio international film festival program. A series of Dolomites events to experience the cinema festivals in Italy in all its facets, next to established and new competitions of short films.
Free Ride Cortina Challenge Punta Nera 2016
From Friday 25 to Sunday, 27 March you should not miss the Cortina film festival combo freeride-boulder! Easter weekend dedicated to freeride in Cortina d'Ampezzo: three days of sport and adrenaline immersed in the beautiful scenery of the snow-capped Dolomites.
The event was started in 2010 thanks to the collaboration between the Ski Club 18, the Alpine Guides of Cortina and the Squirrels Group. Freeride Cortina Challenge has been enriched year after year with new competitions and side events: in 2012, the Cortina freeride competition added to its program the bouldering competition (climbing) and the junior race, while in 2013 a ski mountaineering race and the Squirrels Trophy have been included in the program.
A spectacular and highly technical course, which winds through Cortina d'Ampezzo, Faloria and Cinque Torri, that guarantees the Punta Nera Freeride Challenge Cortina is a steadily growing success. Just think that the BBC, RAI and Sky devote a special programme to the event. In 2015 there was a record number of registrations, with almost 600 participants!
