Do not miss one of the most fascinating Nordic skiing races in Italy 2017! Besides the excitement of attending an uphill marathon, the Marciabianca Valmaron offers the opportunity to discover one of the most beautiful areas of Veneto, Marcesina. Called the 'Finland of Italy' for its record temperatures - despite its location at just 1400 m it is the coldest place in Veneto. Marcesina is also considered important for its history and nature and offers picturesque fairytale scenery.
In addition to Piana di Marcesina, Enego is also worth a brief visit. A picturesque mountain village where human intervention is in perfect harmony with the surrounding nature, Enego is the easternmost village in the Seven Municipalities Plateau and extends from the edge of Valsugana to Mount Ortigara at an altitude of 2150 m.
The main historical records preserved in Enego cover the period of the Great War, which violently hit the whole area especially during the Austro-Hungarian punitive expedition. The town was then almost completely rebuilt after 1918 and, recently, several initiatives have been undertaken to restore and enhance the works that survived the Great War, such as the opening of the Monte Ortigara Museum and the renovation of the Fort and Coldarco Battery.
Piazza del Popolo and Piazza San Marco are at the heart of the village: here we find the Santa Giustina Dome, which preserves an altarpiece by Jacopo da Bassano, and hosts all the events that bring Enego to life throughout the year.
Those who love walking can walk to the small Frizzon Church, dated to 1837 and now converted to an ossuary of the soldiers who deceased in Russia, while we would like to remind bike enthusiasts that the picturesque Monaco-Venezia cycle path passes right through Enego!
You should also know that Enego is less than two hours from Vicenza: don’t miss the opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Palladio!
