2008 sees Vicenza returning as the backdrop for an exceptional event, which sees the XIII edition of this festival in the same year as the 500th anniversary of the birth of its most famous adopted son, the architect Palladio. For this reason this years New Conversations - Vicenza Jazz festival is subtitled The Architecture of Jazz: to synthesize two sublime art forms, two different modes of construction using space, inspiration and a profound understanding of the rules of the game. So the great names of contemporary jazz will gather together among the masterpieces of Palladio (the crowning glories being the Palazzo Barbaran da Porto, the Teatro Olimpico and the Piazza dei Signori uniting the beauty of their music with the surroundings. Among the prestigious names: Mike Stern, Stacey Kent, Oliver Lake, Jean-Luc Ponty, Greg Osby, Larry Coryell, with the Italians Enrico Rava, Quintorigo, Giovanni Allevi, Franco D'Andrea, Fabrizio Bosso and Gianluca Petrella. In addition the two previews on the 23 and 29 April host the Israeli singer Noa, whose art resides in the crossing between pop, jazz and world music, and the quintet of the jazz guitarist Frank Vignola. The entire city will be participating in the event however: Weekends and late evenings offer the chance to visit the Teatro Astra, which will host saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi and his quartet, Baba Yoga, and the Jazz Vicenza Orkestra. The festival will as usual also feature book presentations, film showings, seminars and workshops in addition to various open-air concerts in antique churches.
