Opera on Ice 2012: the great figure ice skating show that has enchanted the world returns to the Arena di Verona

Regarded as one of the most prestigious shows of the Arena di Verona, Opera on Ice on 22 September 2012 will include some of the best world ice skating champions: a fascinating and engaging show, the best opera singers, who interpret some of the best known operas, combined with the Arena di Verona's own orchestra and choir in the unique setting of the world famous open air theatre.
Amongst the elegant vaults, suspended steps and stunts, the most famous names in figure ice skating will give the public in the Arena di Verona one of the greatest shows there has ever been, a fusion of motion and opera in Verona.
Following the great success of last year, that saw ice skating in the Arena di Verona being shown in cinemas in 40 countries, Opera on Ice Verona could soon become a travelling show and may well arrive in many international locations.
This year Opera on Ice 2012 will combine ice figure skaters with the intense atmosphere of opera, represented by the major arias of next seasons operas at Arena di Verona: Aida, Nabucco, La Traviata, Il Trovatore, Rigoletto and Romeo and Juilet.
On the occasion of Opera on Ice the stage at the Arena di Verona will be enlarged and, behind the ice rink large platforms will be provided to accommodate the singers, choir and orchestra, whilst the sound, lighting and effects will be similar to those used during major live concerts.
The Godmother of Opera on Ice, and the principal interpreter of the show, Carolina Kostner represents the pride of Italian ice skating. Current World Champion and four-time European gold medalist, Carolina Kostner is one of the most prominent athletes throughout the world, thanks to her amazing talent and grace that characterizes her skills on ice.
Carolina Kostner at the Arena di Verona will show to everyone her charisma and passion figure skating on ice in an exceptional and unique show.
Supporting the Godmother Caroline Kostner at the Arena di Verona 2012 there will be Evgeni Plushenko, an iconic world ice skater - several times world and European champion - Winner of a gold medal at the Olympics in Turin 2006 and silver in Vancouver and Salt Lake City; Stephane Lambiel - Swiss champion who won Olympic silver and bronze medals and another two world titles; Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy - the German ice figure skating couple who won a bronze medal at the last Olympics, four-times European and worls champions; Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte - the new cutting edge of ice skating talent in Italy; and the Hot Shivers - the first Italian couple of synchronized ice skating who have won countless prestigious international awards.
