Following the tradition, many Venetians spend the night of the festa del Redentore in Venice 2014 on a boat. Towards sunset lots of boats, lit and with decorated boughs and coloured balloons, begin to take their place in St. Mark's Basin and the Giudecca Canal to wait for the beginning of the fireworks with music and Venetian specialties.
But there is not only fun and festivities for Sunday, July 20 the Redeemer's fest in Venice, Italy 2014 is also to commemorate the terrible plague that, during the 16th century, killed more than a third of the inhabitants of the city. At the peak of the epidemic, the Senate vowed to build a new church dedicated to the Redeemer to try to save the city. On July 20 of the following year, a celebration took place at the end of an epidemic that had even questioned the very survival of the Venice Republic. The Feast of the Redeemer in Venice 2014 quickly became an annual event and today represents one of the most deeply rooted traditions in Venice.
For the Redentore in Venice 2014, the Sunday schedule includes: the solemn procession of the patriarch along the pontoon bridge set up between Zattere and the island of Giudecca, the religious ceremony in the Church of the Redentore and Regata Redentore night 2014.
