Venice Dance Festival - La Biennale Danza 2015
The call to art of 16 great choreographers
From 25 June 2015 to 29 June 2015
Everything is ready for Biennale Danza Venezia 2015! TheInternational Festival of Contemporary Dance in Venice will take place from 25th to 28th June 2015 in the beautiful lagoon city, chaired by Paolo Baratta and directed by choreographer Virgilio Sieni.
The 2015 Dance Biennale program will give ample space to the Biennale College project. The Venice Dance Festival was initiated in 2013, in order to give young artists the opportunity to work side by side by great masters on the international scene; the Biennale Danza Venezia has been a huge success. Also present in other areas of the Venice Biennale, Biennale Danza aims to bring together the various Biennale activities by drawing the younger generation, their energies, ideas and innovations; in this spirit, the Biennale Danza 2015 activities will be totally dedicated to the young dancers.
This year, for the Dance Biennale, Virgilio Sieni has convened 16 choreographers already well known in the international arena such as Cesc Gelabert; Laurent Chetouane; Alessandro Sciarroni; Radhouane El Meddeb; Xavier Le Roy; Claudia Castellucci, founder of the famous Societas Raffaello Sanzio; Olivia Grandville, who at the Venice Dance Festival Biennale in 2015 will re-elaborate the dances of Boris Charmatz, Emanuel Gat and Sharon Fridman, talented Israelis dancers who have already established themselves in Europe; Marina Giovannini and Michele Di Stefano, last year's Silver Lion; and Virgil Sieni himself. Besides them, the Bienniale Danza in 2015 will involve some young and talented choreographers: the Kinetic Collective of Francesca Pennini, Salva Sanchis, already a choreographer with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in some shows, the Swiss Yasmine Hugonnet and Annamaria Ajmone. For the duration of the Venice Dance Festival the choreographers will be engaged in interesting creative workshops with professional dancers that will end with various choreographies visible to all.
The theme of the Biennale College of the Bienniale Danza in 2015 is to understand dance as a great space to be shared with the public for an intense formation towards creation. The 16 choreographic shows, made at the Biennale College, will be held from noon to late evening between the two ends of the lagoon city: in the evocative districts of Dorsoduro and St Mark 10 performances will be offered that will give room to the creativity and the freedom of expression of the dancers. Simultaneously, at theatres and other characteristic locations of the Arsenal, additional compelling choreographic works resulting from challenging research projects will be offered.
Given the success achieved by Virgil Sieni at the Biennale - Danza Venezia in 2014, this year some of his 27 choreographic pictures of the Gospel According to Matthew will be set up, with the participation of local performers, while the full course can be admired in the film version thanks to contribution of the Historical Archive of the Biennale.
On Saturday, 27th June in the Hall of Columns of Ca' Giustinian, there will be a very emotional ceremony: the awarding of the Golden Lion for Dance Lifetime Achievement for 2015 to the choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. An undisputed star in the international dance scene, this unique Belgian artist has never lost sight of the relationship between music and movement, the cornerstone of her way to see dance. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, the Biennale Danza in 2015, will star in 'Fase' of Biennale Contemporary Dance, together with the great contemporary dancer Tale Dolven. The show, four movements to the music of Steve Reich, will be staged on 27th June at the alle Tese Theatre and divided into three tracks: Agora, Invention and Vita Nova. The latter is a project born with the collaboration of other theatres and dedicated young dancers aged between 10 to 14 years.
This year a very interesting initiative has been created: 'The dance in the city', a creative workshop to start the Social Media Blog of the Dance Biennale College - Venice. 5 Bloggers or critical experts and 5 starting-out interns under 30 will be selected, together with a professional filmmaker, will give life to the project through interviews, news and insights. The Biennale di Danza Venezia workshop, organized by Massimo Marino and Lorenzo Donati, wants to be an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between the live show and the modern means of social communication.
Do not miss the International Festival of Contemporary Dance in Venice: Biennale Danza 2015 Dance, one of the most prestigious and multicultural artistic poles on the world stage: 25th to 28th June, the program will see the participation of the greatest directors, musicians and choreographers.
