What happened on April 15 in Venice
According to the Venetian Liturgical Calendar, the Saint of the Day is St. Crescentius Martyr.
- April 15, 1757: the great painter Rosalba Carriera dies in Venice aged 82, blind and in the grip of madness; she is known for her miniature and pastel portraits made for noblewomen and kings from all over Europe. Inspired by the French taste, her refined art expresses itself with delicate and luminous colors, capturing with acute sensitivity the psyche of the subject to be portrayed; she is the first to neglect the academic rules on miniature with short and amalgamated strokes and points, introducing a quick stroke, characteristic of Venetian painting.
- April 15, 1947: Vittorio Zecchin, an innovative glass artist and more, dies in Murano, he introduces modernity into the art of glass, producing extremely refined works, for the most important furnaces on the island, Barovier, Venini, Toso, Ferro, Seguso. He also dedicates himself to painting and tapestries.
