What happened on March 10 in Venice
According to the Venetian Liturgical Calendar, today is Saints Martyrs of Sebaste’s Day
- March 10, 1337: sixty embassies from all parts of Italy meet in Venice: Milan, Modena, Mantua, Reggio, Ferrara, the marquisate of Este, the Community of Pavia and other cities, in order to promote the league between Venetians and Fiorentini against Alberto and Mastino della Scala, lords of Verona.
- March 10, 1924: the Fascist Regime gives the Doge's Palace to the Municipality of Venice on a temporary rent; the ceremony for the symbolic handing over of the keys takes place in the Sala dei Pregadi in the presence of the authorities and the representative of the Government declares: «I deliver to Venice the keys of this Palace where the highest Italian political wisdom was established. These people of sailors, artists, traders needed to get back the seat of that Palace where all the political life of Venice took place», but even today the Doge’s Palace does not belong to Venetians.
