The tour will start in front of the entrance to the Padua Botanical Garden, where you will meet with the guide at the time that you will agree together according to your needs. Founded as a medicinal garden of the Padua University in 1545, the Botanical Garden of Padua was included in the Unesco World Heritage List in 1997. Even today, it acts as a centre for scientific research and innovation of international appeal... Past and present here blend with a common purpose: enhancement of knowledge and conservation of biodiversity.
In addition to being an unmissable visit for botany enthusiasts, the site attracts a large number of visitors every year who visit it for altogether different reasons. The garden, in fact, was built according to a precise cosmic symbology linked to the Renaissance thinking that brought together scientific and humanistic knowledge under a single universal project.
Our visit to the Padua Botanical Garden will start right from the historical section, characterized by an architectural layout inspired by the harmony and the formal perfection typical of the 16th century.
Its circular shape with an inscribed square divided into further orthogonal sectors is in fact full of fascinating cosmological symbols that, for example, link each sector to the four elements: the circumference is the symbol of the Universe's perfection, while the circle and the square represent, according to the philosophical principles of the time, the Universe and the Earth.
Starting from the past our walk will reach the future in the new Biodiversity Garden. Here you will be accompanied on a journey through the biomes of the planet: 1300 plant species are divided between five greenhouses, as many as the world's continents, which simulate the climatic conditions of the various environmental systems, from tropical areas to sub-humid ones, temperate zones to arid ones.
Between present and past, this immense structure preserves the plant variety of the entire planet, as well as being a splendid and rare example of sustainable architecture that relies on thermal waters and solar energy for its functioning.
After the visit to the Botanical Garden, the tour will continue with a guided walk to discover the 'City of the Saint'. The visit to the historic center will focus in particular on the exterior of the Town Hall and Palazzo della Ragione with its original covered market, Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta, the ancient courtyard of the University and the ground floor rooms of the historic Caffè Pedrocchi.
With its elegant public places, shops and historical and artistic testimonies, this lively city is an undisputed source of attraction for tourists: the best way to visit Padua is on foot to slowly discover both its best and less know sights ... Even better if you are accompanied by an expert local guide who will immerse you in the history of the city in a fully engaging way!
