Visit to Castello di Roncade
The guided tour of Roncade Castle will develop along a captivating itinerary characterized by a 'knightly' charm. In fact, the present day Renaissance architecture resembles the features of the ancient medieval manor, incorporating the remains of the original fortifications. The enviable preservation of the structure will allow you to get in touch with the atmosphere of the past: visiting the Castello di Roncade means diving into a timeless dimension.
Do not miss the opportunity to discover the only existing Venetian villa enclosed within a ring of medieval city walls. Among the imposing crenelated walls, moat and defensive towers that dominate the landscape, you will find a wealth of features to make you feel like you are traveling through history! Our Villa Giustinian and Castello di Roncade, Italy, tour will allow you to experience with the whole family or with your friends the charms of a distant past!
The triumphal entrance of the villa will immediately transport you into a surprising and untouched ambience, where secular trees embrace a majestic historic home that for centuries has been the focus of rural and many other activities. It will be a pleasure to stroll in the lush garden where you will hear the fascinating story of the thirty Schiavoni statues that are still scattered amongst the vegetation: an ancient legend imbued with passion, betrayal and magic.
The guided tour of Roncade Castle will then take you to the majestic Villa Giustinian, composed of a central section and two side wings, formerly residential areas but now used for wine making purposes.
The itinerary also includes the visit to the cellars, to admire the places where wine is left to age.
The beautiful façade is embellished with a double loggia supported by eight Istrian stone columns, accessed via a large staircase. According to tradition, the project is attributed to Sansovino, although there is the possibility that the true makers were the Lombardo brothers and Codussi.
The visit of the majestic inside hall of the villa will reveal its harmonious relationship with the surrounding area. The large room, in fact, has wide windows that are conducive to searching for a constant dialogue between architecture and landscape. Here you will have the opportunity to admire the 18th-century furnishings, the beautiful lacquered wooden ceiling and the walls decorated with delicate pastel stuccos.
Next to the mansion is an ancient private chapel, an integral part of the Castello di Roncade tour and tasting, rich in artistic testimonies that add more charm to this wonderful place.
In 1930, after years of neglect, Baron Tito Ciani Bassetti acquired the castle and brought it back to its original beauty. Foreseeing that the area was particularly suited for wine-growing, he established an enterprise that was then handed down through generations to the present day. Castello di Roncade is now home to the namesake winery and the current owner of the Castle, Baron Vincenzo Ciani Bassetti, is a great wine enthusiast and expert in wine making techniques.
Thanks to the refined hospitality of the Baron, the visit to Castello di Roncade, Italy will end with the tasting of five different varieties of wine offered by the castle winery. Among the many wines you can taste, it is worth mentioning Villa Giustinian, a top quality IGT red wine made from a Bordeaux blend, introduced in Italy by the Baron himself.
The tasting will be accompanied by a selection of traditional local products such as salami, cheeses and other delicious local specialties: a feast of fresh and genuine flavours that will make your visit truly unforgettable!
