Full description

This charming tour will give you the chance to enjoy a half-day excursion to Burano and San Francesco del Deserto and make you appreciate Venice under a new and incomparable perspective!

Our fascinating itinerary to San Francesco and Burano Italy with guided tour to both islands will start from the pier in Burano. Here you will meet with the expert local guide who will take you on an exciting guided tour of the island, around crafts shops and artistic beauties that boast a thousand-year-long history. After visiting Burano you will board a typical Venetian boat to reach San Francesco del Deserto, where a friar will take you round the monastery, a precious treasure trove of history, art and tradition.

This unique guided visit in Burano Venice and boat to San Francesco monastery will reveal to you a lesser known and accessible side of Venice, allowing you to discover places untouched by the cacophony of modern life.

The tour, which starts in Burano and therefore does not include transportation to/from the island, includes a guided visit that will immerse you in the heart of local life ... You will be captured by the vibrant soul of this colourful happy island, proudly safeguarded over the centuries thanks to the careful preservation of practices and traditions. No visitor will feel untouched by the positivity exuding from the vivid colours of the fishermen's houses or the charm of the old ladies who to this day continue to embroider the renowned bobbin lace: here, away from mass tourism, there lies the true folk’s spirit of Venice and you will receive a spontaneous and heartfelt welcoming.

Discover Burano in the hands of a local expert guide who will tell you fascinating anecdotes about the history and untouched traditions of the island thanks to their deep knowledge of the area and the love for this island. You will have the opportunity to admire the most characteristic places of Burano, such as the famous 'Campanil storto' (Leaning Bell Tower), and beautiful views over the entire lagoon. The most famous monuments of the island, such as the church of San Martino Vescovo (which houses a painting by Giambattista Tiepolo), or the Lace Museum and the Town Hall, will also receive the rightful attention.

After the guided tour of Burano, you will reach on a boat in typical Venetian style the monastery of San Francesco. Navigating the waters of the lagoon you will see this small strip of land surrounded by lush vegetation with only the centuries-old bell tower emerging through it. The visit of San Francesco del Deserto from Burano will instil in you a unique perspective of the island, which will be revealed to you little by little, like a floating garden imbued with history and spirituality.

The Friars of the Franciscan monastery established their headquarters on the island in 1230, after Francis of Assisi arrived here in 1220 on his return from the Holy Land. The welcoming spirit of the monastery, which for centuries has kept its doors opened to pilgrims, will delight you and you will have the honour of participating to the guided visit accompanied by one of the island’s Franciscan Friars.

Upon arriving, a staff member will accompany you to the front of the fifteenth-century church and the adjacent monastery, where you will be greeted by a friar who will share with you his vast knowledge of the island, handed down between generations of monks who have inhabited the island for centuries.

During the guided tour of San Francesco del Deserto you will become engrossed in the narration of the events related to the history of the monastery, to this day still strictly concealed behind its massive walls ... As evidenced by the wall inscriptions that describe the miracle of the silence of the birds of St. Francis and the donation of the island by the Venetian patrician Jacopo Michiel to the Franciscans.

The embrace of nature, strongly felt only where peace and beauty are unconstrained, will welcome you among the cypress trees, the pine trees and the flowers of the garden, the orchards and cloisters of the monastery. The beauty of this place, exalted by a calm and relaxed atmosphere, will offer you a completely new perspective of the Venetian lagoon.

After visiting the monastery of San Francesco del Deserto you will have time at your leisure before boarding for the sailing to Burano, where you can choose to either return to Venice or enjoy a few hours of shopping in complete autonomy.

Do not wait any longer, visit Burano and San Francesco del Deserto and their major historical and artistic treasures with a guided tour! A splendid Burano and San Francesco Venice walking tour with a local guide who is ready to infuse you with the charm of the most pristine places of the lagoon! Away from the crowds of the streets and the clamour of cities you will spend a magical afternoon immersed in history, tradition and nature.

The guided visit with a local guide will be held only in Burano. At the end of the visit of Burano, the guide will accompany you to the boat to reach the island of San Francesco del Deserto. Here, the explanations will be provided by a Franciscan Friar. After the visit of the monastery, you will enjoy some free time to discover the island on your own before coming back to Burano.
