Completely relaxed and awed by the charm of the areas included in the itinerary, you will first visit Marostica from Venice, also nicknamed 'The Chess City'.
The town stands in an enviable geographical position between the high plain and the foothills of Vicenza. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the historical centre, walking around the impressive town’s walls that connects the lower castle to the upper one. The latter overlooks from the top of the hill the famous Square of Chess, world-known as it hosts every two years the famous chess game with living characters. Following the town’s walls – recently reopened - you will enjoy a wonderful walk up to the upper castle, and feel rewarded with a unique all-round view of the city and the chess square.
After the visit of Marostica from Venice, the driver will take you to Bassano del Grappa, the second stage of this fascinating full day tour to Marostica, Asolo and Bassano. Here you will taste the best grappa qualities of this area and visit the charming historical centre.
Also known as Città degli Alpini (City of the Alpine Soldiers), Bassano will reveal itself to you as a welcoming town full of history and genuine flavours ... Here you will visit the best known monument in Bassano: Ponte degli Alpini (Bridge of the Alpine Soldiers). Originally called Ponte Vecchio, it was designed by the famous architect Andrea Palladio. After the Second World War, it was rebuilt by the Italian Association of Alpine Soldiers.
This is certainly one of the most romantic and captivating places in Italy, located in a lively district enlivened by taverns and bars serving grappa. Our visit of Bassano from Venice with grappa tasting will continue to the time-honoured Nardini grappa maker, where you will spice up your cultural visit with a pleasant tasting! You will then proceed with a visit to the Grappa Museum at the Poli Distillery, where you will learn about the traditional distillation techniques and come to appreciate first-hand their products thanks to a tasting of five different types of grappa whilst on site.
The tour will continue with a visit to Asolo from Venice, the third and final stage of our private excursion to Marostica, Bassano and Asolo. Described by the Italian poet Giosuè Carducci as the 'City of a Hundred Horizons', Asolo is certainly one of the most fascinating historical cities in Veneto. Embraced by the ancient walls that stretch out from the 12th century fortress, this elegant town enshrines in its corners the testimonies of a millennial history. Its majestic location on top of a hill has made it a destination favoured by poets and artists who have since long been drawn to it by the city’s refined atmosphere.
Our visit of Asolo from Venice is the perfect opportunity to combine history and culture with the gourmet delights of the restaurants and wine bars that enliven the streets and squares of the city. In the historical centre, built around the famous Piazza Garibaldi, you will visit the city’s best-known sights: the Cathedral, the Fortress and the 10th century Castle.
