The last appointment of the 2018 Venice Carnival is waiting for you on Tuesday 13 February at the Hotel Splendid in Venice! An exclusive location to celebrate Shrove Tuesday (with an afternoon of great beauty) with a delightful afternoon!
A refined event in period costume, traditional dances from the 18th and 19th centuries and live music will recreate the romantic and legendary atmosphere of the Venice Republic.
Just a stone's throw from St Mark’s Square, the Hotel Splendid in Venice combines the timeless charm of Venice with modern comforts and attention to customer needs. Its attention to detail, combination of classic and contemporary design solutions and elegant style make it the perfect location to host the closing event of the Carnival of Venice 2018.
You can savour hot chocolate and traditional pastries while a dance instructor and his partner illustrate basic steps of traditional Venice carnival dances, which you will later be able to repeat under their careful supervision. A trio of classical musicians will delight your afternoon with live music which accompanies the dancing. You will hear pieces of Waltz, a genre preferred by all 18th century European courts; the Polka, a vivacious couple dance; the Minuet, the dance which dominated in Louis XIV’s court; the Farandole, an open-chain community dance, in which dancers hold hands following a leader in a circle forming a linked chain, a serpentine line or following direction changes; the Contra, in which the dancers form two parallel lines.
After your dancing session you will make your way to St Mark’s square to watch the ‘Svolo del Leon’ (literally, the Lion Flight), which will mark the end of the Carnival of Venice 2018.
Please note that to attend the event a historical period costume is required. You can rent carnival venetian ball costumes at the Atelier Tiepolo in Venice. When booking the rental service for the Last Waltz in Venice you can benefit from reduced prices. During the carnival the Atelier Tiepolo will be based at the famous Hotel Danieli: once you have booked your costume online you can go to the atelier during the opening hours to choose and pick up your outfits.
Traditional 18th and 19th century dancing, hot chocolate and typical pastries to enjoy once more the vibrant atmosphere of the Venice carnival time, before scheduling your agenda for 2019!
