Why choose this experience?

1 Because it combines St Mark’s Basilica and the Doge's Palace in an itinerary of about two hours, easily bookable online
2 To get to know the two buildings that have accompanied the fascinating history of Venice every step of the way
3 Because you will admire works of art of inestimable value, evidence of the refined taste and immense power achieved by Venice in the past

This impressive tour will lead you to the discovery of the two most important places in the history of the Republic of Venice: Doge's Palace, the centre of the temporal power, and St. Mark's Basilica, the symbol of spiritual power and religion.

A unique opportunity to travel inside Venice by visiting two of the most prestigious buildings overlooking the splendid St Mark's Square. After visiting Venice's Palazzo dei Dogi, the former seat of the judiciary and the Doges which now houses the Museum of the Doge's Palace, you will also visit St Mark's Basilica in Venice, which has for centuries guarded the precious relics of St. Mark.

The first structure of the Doge's Palace was built around the ninth century… Over the centuries it has been altered several times to become a real jewel of Venetian Gothic architecture.

This fascinating tour will show you the precious interiors of the Doge's Palace and will give you the opportunity to visit the famous Bridge of Sighs. A complete and detailed excursion to admire the hub of the Republic of Venice, between the beautiful artwork of the many artists called to exalt the splendour and countless masterpieces kept inside. The Doge's Palace in Venice is the route to visiting the Bridge of Sighs and the Opera Museum, the Giants' Staircase and the Golden Staircase, the Institutional Rooms, the Doge's Apartment and other incredible treasures...

Our tour will then take you to the splendid St Mark's Basilica, the chapel of Doge's Palace until the fall of the Venetian Republic and later elected as the cathedral of Venice.

Held in a deep spiritual atmosphere, mosaics, majestic architecture and sumptuous vestments make St Mark's Basilica a work of art of inestimable value. During the visit we will explain the scenes and special features of the mosaics of St Mark's Basilica in Venice and admire the beautiful Golden Pall.

Decorated with enamel made with the émail cloisonné technique and consisting of sheets of gilded silver, St Mark's Golden Pall was completed in 1345 with the setting of 1927 precious stones by master goldsmith Buoninsegna. Forming the background of the altar of St Mark's Basilica during only the most important liturgical celebrations, the Golden Pall is a true masterpiece of the goldsmith's art.

Entrance to St Mark's Church and Doge's Palace offers the exclusive opportunity to visit the two buildings that have witnessed in the forefront the evolution of the history of Venice! This page allows you to book Doge's Palace tickets and St Mark's Basilica tickets conveniently online with this unmissable guided tour!

Additional information:

Before booking, please be advised that it is compulsory to print a paper copy of the voucher issued at the end of the online reservation and bring it with you the day of the tour.

No credit or refunds will be given in the case of a NO SHOW (if you don't show up at the meeting point at the time indicated on your voucher).

Please arrive at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before the tour departure time. At the tour departure point you will meet a representative who will check your vouchers and give you information to do the tour. Please be advised that, due to the new security measures concerning the entrance into the major Venice museums, there might be queues at the entrance, with consequent protraction of the usual waiting time to access the museums.

During the winter period (from November 1st to March 31st) the tour is bilingual, because explanations will be provided in two languages if the audience provenience is mixed.

Access to the Basilica is only permitted to visitors with suitable attire (no shorts or vest or tops) and backpacks are not allowed for safety reasons.

The Procuratoria di San Marco reserves the right to prohibit visits and access to the basilica at any time and without notice for reasons of force majeure (e.g. high water) and/or safety reasons. In cases of extra liturgical ceremonies, exceptional high tides or other special occasions, access to St Mark's Basilica may not be permitted and therefore the tour will not take place.

This is a collective tour, which means there might be other participants going on the tour with you.

This is a combo tour including 2 single tours.

Please note that, due to the particular morphological structure of Venice and the logistic problems resulting from it, we cannot guarantee that the whole tour is accessible to people with limited mobility. This means that people with walking difficulties and wheelchair users could not be able to access some parts of the itinerary.

In exceptional cases and/or reasons of force majeure that may prevent the tour already purchased to run regularly (i.e. acts of nature, strikes, exceptional closures, serious unexpected events or health problems experienced by the person in charge with the service after which it is really impossible to find a substitute), the tour might be cancelled. The customer will be notified of this as soon as possible and will be asked to choose between postponing the tour on the first date available or receiving a prompt refund of the price paid for the tour, if the cancellation policy of the service itself allows a refund.

Fabulous tour of St Marks and Doges Palace. Wonderful guide, full of enthusiasm and fun. Could do with a little more organisation at meeting point but did not distract from experience. Felt like Vip’s Always in front of queues.

This allowed us to control our time as you are restricted where you can go. You can feel the pressure of a mass of people and the skip the line entry is wonderful and good. The views from the roof terrace which is highly recommended.

Strengths

The Basilica San Marco and Palazzo Ducale are beautiful and full of history, can't be missed when visiting Venice

'Perfect solution to avoiding the lines!'

Tour
Skip The Line: St Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace Tours

Our tour went very smoothly .. . . we had no trouble finding our meeting spot and getting linked up with our guide. Her English was excellent and she hit the highlights of the Palace and Basilica. The tour ended without a trip up to the upper floor of the Basilica but our guide was able to get us back in so that w could go to the upper floor. You might want to ask your guide to drop you off early so that you don't have to go back in! And, yes, the lines were very long . . . . even at the end of October!

The day was crowded so it was great to be able to escape lines and have a knowledgeable guide. My partner had trouble hearing with his bud. It would be helpful to have some fuller sized, over the ear phones for those with a hearing loss.

Strengths

Escape line Informative guide

Weaknesses

While time is built in to see things, you are shepherded along and cannot linger as you would while on your own.

'Worth the cost'

Tour
Skip The Line: St Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace Tours

We didn't have much time in Venice, so we booked this skip the line tour to save some time. Turns out we learned a lot more than if we went on our own. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Strengths

Knowledgeable guide, radio headsets ensured you could always hear her

Weaknesses

Chaotic check in procedure at the clock tower, lack of advance info about how large bags would be handled and require dress code

Reply by venetoinside.com Staff

Dear Chicago couple,

we are pleased you recommend this tour despite its weaknesses. Unfortunately, during high season, it may happen that the meeting point is a little chaotic due to very large groups of people, but we can assure that our staff always do its best in order to cause as less inconvenience as possible to partipants in the tour. Concerning large bags and the dress code required to access the Basilica, we specify all the information on the voucher: Access to the Basilica is only permitted to visitors with suitable attire. VISITOR'S CLOTHING must be in keeping with the sacredness of the basilica: shorts, sleeveless dresses, low-cut and skimpy clothes are not allowed; suitcases, backpacks or bulky bags are not allowed for safety reasons: if necessary, you will be instructed about the luggage storage directly on the spot. We regret this was not clear enough to you!

Best regards,
The venetoinside.com staff

'Brilliant Tour'

Tour
Skip The Line: St Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace Tours

We ordered this and other activities through Veneto Inside before travelling to Venice and are so glad we did. This tour was well organised and our guide was extremely knowledgeable. The main thing was we skipped the queues which were very long when we were in Venice (on a Saturday) as it is an extremely busy place. Doge's Palace was a Highlight and included a tour of the old prison cells and you got to walk over the Bridge of Sighs. Would certainly recommend.

Strengths

Doge's Palace tour guide very knowledgable steady pace skipped very long queues

Weaknesses

No photos allowed in St Marks Basilica but this isn't the Tour Companies fault.

'St. Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace'

Tour
Skip The Line: St Mark's Basilica and Doge's Palace Tours

Our tour was on 9/27/2016 at 11:15 a.m. This tour could have been great, however, it was tainted by the lack of professionalism of the guide. Our guide was a professor and very knowledgeable. However, this was an English speaking tour and his accent was so thick you could barely understand him. Several of us had to constantly watch his lips so that we could try to understand him. What was even worse, though, was his lack of professionalism. He repeatedly made sexist comments and interjected his political views and commentary rather than just telling you the history and facts of the Basilica and Palace.

Strengths

St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace themselves.

Weaknesses

The guide.

Reply by venetoinside.com Staff

Dear Pat,

we are sorry about what happened! After receiving your review, we carefully delved into this issue to find out who was in charge with your tour and prevent other similar situations from happening again. Actually, we haven't received any complaints by other participants in the same tour, so we may suppose that the guide was joking.
Sometimes the guides try to animate the explanations with jokes and gags… Unfortunately, they don’t always take into account that the participants in the tour may come from all over the world and therefore belong to different cultures and social contexts. His jokes might not make other people laugh or even be considered offensive. We deeply apologise for his behaviour but we can assure you that he did not want to offend anyone.
Anyway, we can also assure you that we are working in order to make things change and to penalize guides who did not prove to have a proper behaviour towards cultures and traditions of our customers.
As for your criticism about the guide's command of language, please consider that the guide who was in charge with you tour is usually much appreciated by our customers for his good level of English.

Best regards,
The venetoinside.com staff
