Why choose this experience?

1 To enjoy a fascinating St Mark’s Basilica in Venice tour with skip-the-line access: the Basilica will open for you its ancient doors and reveal the secrets kept inside...
2 For the intimate and charming atmosphere, guaranteed by a very small number of participants.
3 Because it offers multiple daily departures in different languages and includes the visit to the Pala d'Oro, St Mark's Basilica treasures and to the Zen Chapel, which can be accessed only with this thrilling tour!

Please note:

  • monolingual tour in Italian, English or French;
  • the skip-the-line access to St. Mark's Basilica is included in the tour;
  • max 25 participants per group.

An original St Mark’s Venice tour to discover the most famous works of art of the Basilica in an exclusive guided visit of the religious symbol building of Venice! Thanks to the small number of participants expected from our guided tour of San Marco in Venice, you can enjoy an intimate and relaxed atmosphere... Take your time to admire the masterpieces preserved within this century-old building and enjoy the experience of our guides to learn about all the details of this extraordinary cathedral!

You will enjoy the convenient skip-the-line service, included in the reservation of our San Marco Venice visit, to enter the building and avoid the long waiting times usually expected at the entrance of St. Mark's Basilica: the guide will lead you along an exclusive itinerary to discover the magnificent treasures of St. Mark's Cathedral ...

St Mark’s Cathedral and its Treasures will make you feel privileged from the beginning of our St Mark's Basilica tour: seated at the centre of the Basilica, you will listen to the thousand-year history of the building, the stages of its construction and its rise from a simple church for the Dog’s Palace to Venice cathedral.

After the historical introduction of St Mark's Basilica in Venice, the tour will continue with a visit to St Mark’s Baptistery and the Zen Chapel in Venice, two little-known beautiful places…

St Mark’s Baptistery in Venice is decorated with fourteenth-century mosaics depicting stories of the Baptist and childhood of Christ; at the centre of the baptistery you can admire the beautiful baptismal font and the tombstone of Jacopo Sansovino, and one of the finest examples of Gothic sculpture in Venice: the tomb of Andrea Dandolo.

The itinerary of the tour of St. Mark's Cathedral and its treasures will then continue with a visit to the Zen Chapel in Venice, which can be visited only with our thrilling tour and usually inaccessible to everyday visitors of the Basilica…Converted into a chapel in honour of Cardinal Zen, this place is the old entrance to the Basilica on the pier side. Although the Zen Chapel in St Mark's Cathedral is a splendid example of Renaissance art, the mosaics inside date back to the previous monumental entrance of the church.

Our exclusive visit to St Mark's Basilica treasury, generally not included in the regular guided St. Mark's basilica tours, will be the next stop on our itinerary. St Mark's Venice treasury is housed in a tower, in two rooms that are the only remains of the first Doge’s Palace in Venice. In the right room you can admire magnificent liturgical objects, while the left room houses the extensive collection of the relics of St. Mark's Basilica: the guide will pay special attention to the most relevant objects from the artistic and religious point of view.

The Treasury of the Basilica consists of 283 pieces, among which there are Byzantine and Islamic art objects, arrived in Venice after the sack of Constantinople, gifts and acquisitions of the church over the centuries.

After admiring the Treasury, our St Mark's Basilica guided tour will continue in the direction of the high altar, to admire the splendid twelfth century columns that support the alabaster ciborium under which St. Mark relics are kept…

The last part of the tour, the visit to the Pala d'Oro, is undoubtedly one of the most exciting moments of our tour of St Mark's Basilica in Venice: the Pala d'Oro is one of the greatest treasures of St. Mark's Basilica, and is considered one of the most valuable objects in the world. The Golden Pall is made up of silver gilded leaves and decorated with enamels, made with the technique of émail cloisonné, and precious stones. It was completed in 1345 by the great goldsmith master Buoninsegna. St. Mark’s Pala d'Oro is the backdrop to the altar of St Mark’s Basilica, but is not always visible! In fact, it is rotated to the public only on the occasion of the major liturgical celebrations, thanks to a special device.

St. Mark's Cathedral and its Treasures: a tour to visit St Mark’s Basilica as real protagonists, accompanied by an expert guide, that will tell the story and reveal to you all the secrets of the most important religious building of the Venice Republic.

Book now and treat yourself to an unforgettable experience to discover St. Mark's Cathedral and its treasures and especially the magnificent Zen Chapel, which can be accessed only with our exclusive itinerary! The price displayed is inclusive of the skip-the-line entry, admission tickets to the Pala d'Oro and the Treasury, and guided Basilica di San Marco in Venice tour.

Tour
St. Mark's Cathedral and its Treasures (Skip The Line Guided Tour)

It was easy to book this tour. Guide was super and we really enjoyed the skip-the-line service. I can recommend this!

Strengths

Everything!

Weaknesses

You have to remember take the reservation document with you. I hope in future I can make reservation and when I arrive I just have to say my name. It is old fashioned bring some paper with you. But this certainly is the ONLY weakness. :)

'Great tour!'

St. Mark's Cathedral and its Treasures (Skip The Line Guided Tour)

I did the St. Mark's Cathedral and it's treasures tour in juni 2017. Can really recommend it: you see parts of the cathedral other visitors aren't allowed to see and you get a lot more time to examine all the paintings and other stuff.

'Perfectly Simple'

Tour
St. Mark's Cathedral and its Treasures (Skip The Line Guided Tour)

Glad we booked this tour and in advance. Access was simple, tour guide gave fantastic detail and info, great to queue jump. We wore long trousers as advised but there were others in shorts. The cover ups provided are quite suitable and simple enough.

Strengths

Great information

Weaknesses

none

Reply by venetoinside.com Staff

Dear MrsC,

thank you for your kind review! As for shorts, please note that the official regulation of St. Mark’s Basilica states that only people with suitable attire can access the Basilica… We think our customers need to be informed about that! Unfortunately, some people do not respect the regulation and the watchpersons are not enough to verify the outfit of each visitor.

'St Marks'

Tour
St. Mark's Cathedral and its Treasures (Skip The Line Guided Tour)

Great tour to see other areas of cathedral. Last tour of day though doesn't allow time to see everything else and if you leave a bag in storage you have to run and pick it up before they close.

Strengths

Behind the scenes tour

Weaknesses

Don't take last tour of day, no time to view rest of caledral.

Dear DCINVENICE,

thank you for your review and for reminding such an important detail to our customers. Please consider that we already warned our customers about this, in the Additional Information section on the tour page 'At the end of the guided tour you can remain inside the Basilica and continue the visit on your own. Please note that St. Mark's Basilica closes at 5.00 pm and therefore participants in the 4.00 pm tour will not have time enough to visit the basilica freely'. We regret you missed it before booking!

'Excellent tour and booking experience!'

Tour
St. Mark's Cathedral and its Treasures (Skip The Line Guided Tour)

The tour (St. Mark's Cathedral and its Treasures (Skip The Line Guided Tour) - Venice - 12 April) that I took my Mum on for her birthday (73!) was fabulous, well worth the small amount of money - around 22 euros per ticket from memory. Super easy buying the tickets in advance on the website, no issues with the printed email voucher upon presentation at the cathedral (even in mid April there was an extensive queue for the normal free entrance to the main part of the cathedral) and the tour - there was only one other couple on it! - was excellent, going into the areas not able to be seen with the free entrance option. The tour guide was also lovely and knowledgeable about the cathedral. All in all a great experience, would definitely go through Veneto Insider again.

Strengths

Very easy to book tickets, no issues with acceptance of the emailed voucher, tour guide was excellent. Good value, on time.

Weaknesses

None, it was very good, and I'm not usually a 'tour' type of traveller!

'Skip the line booking St Mark's Basilica'

Tour
St. Mark's Cathedral and its Treasures (Skip The Line Guided Tour)

Well worth the small extra cost to save waiting in a long queue for St Mark's basilica, & to see the treasures inside easily without crowds.

Strengths

Informative guide. No long waits, no crowds.

Weaknesses

Booked a 16.00 tour; as it grows dark the illumination of the mosaic ceilings would be worthwhile, if necessary for an additional cost

Reply by venetoinside.com Staff

Dear R Skeen,

we are pleased you enjoyed the tour! As for the illumination of mosaics, unfortunately lights are turn on only once per day, usually in the morning, as laid down by the regulation of St. Mark’s Basilica.
