Full description

Thanks to this fascinating tour you can take advantage of our Venice in one day tour with a fascinating journey to discover the main places to visit in Venice. An unprecedented walking tour in Venice of St Mark's Square and the Rialto area to admire the city and take part in the magic and liveliness of Venice.

After a walk through the lively streets of the historic centre, which will allow you to visit the famous St Mark's Square, this tour takes you to the two main monuments Venice: the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basilica, with comprehensive and guided visits including skip the line access that will allow you to not miss the thread of the fascinating Venetian history due to boring waiting times.

The walking tour Venice Italy will begin in the famous St Mark's Square in Venice with a description of the main buildings that surround it. The tour will then continue to Campo of Santa Maria Formosa where, surrounded by beautiful buildings, you can listen to the history and some stories about this famous square and the beautiful church of Santa Maria Formosa.

We will then move to another famous square in Venice, Campo Santi Giovanni and Paolo, to admire the majestic equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni by Verrocchio, the Church of Saints John and Paul, and the Schools of Charity.

After seeing the site of the house of Marco Polo in Venice, Italy, you will admire the stunning exteriors of the Malibran Theatre and return to St Mark's Square along the colourful streets of the Mercerie, the famous shopping area located between Rialto and San Marco.

The final stages of our tour will be the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Basilica, two extraordinary sites in the centre of spiritual and temporal power of the ancient Republic of Venice.

Now home to one of the most prestigious museums in Venice, the Doge's Palace Museum, the ancient Doge's Palace is a true masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture. Probably built in the IX century, and transformed over the centuries to achieve the elegant look it has today, the Doge's Palace was the power and grandeur of the Venetian Republic up to its downfall.

Among the sumptuous rooms of the Doge's Palace in Venice, a complete tour to admire the extraordinary painted masterpieces, sophisticated furnishings and countless artistic and historical treasures hidden in the refined rooms where the long history of Venice was decided. The tour also includes a visit to the Bridge of Sighs, the elegant structure suspended between the Doge's Palace and the New Prisons, which owes its name to the sad fate of the condemned prisoners: crossing the Bridge of Sighs, they said farewell to freedom before being locked up in the new prisons. When visiting this eerie place, you will feel like you have gone back in time and be able to relive the torment experienced by the prisoners, who were locked up in such a dark and damp building.

This fascinating tour will conclude between the ancient walls of St Mark's Basilica, with a guided tour of its golden interior. Originally built to house the precious relics of St. Mark, which had been stolen by two merchants of Venice in Alexandria, Egypt, St Mark's Basilica assumed the role of a cathedral only in 1807, after keeping for centuries the role of Palatine Museum of the Doge's Palace.

During the visit you will admire the masterpieces inside the Museum of San Marco that constitute the great patrimony of St Mark’s Basilica, and are evidence of the greatness of the Venetian civilization. The famous St. Mark's Horses are a clear example of it, dating back to the Age of Imperial Rome, which once stood on the upper part of the façade of the Basilica.

By entering the Museum, housed on the first floor of the church, you will also enjoy the special access to the outdoor terrace, from which you can admire St. Mark's Square from a privileged position.

'Great Introduction'

We booked the full 4 hour walking tour on our first morning in Venice and it was a great way to get orientated and understand more about the history of this amazing place. The guide was really helpful and informative and the earpieces meant we could hear all her comments clearly. Skipping the queues at St Marks and the Doge's Palace was a godsend too! Highly recommended.

The tour guide was exceptional as were the Landmarks. We were so happy to make the tour. The morning was very foggy and we needed to take a boat to the meeting spot. The radar on the boat malfunctioned and a new boat had to be brought in. This cost much time but we did amazingly find the right tour group when we finally arrived in the Square.

Great tour guide. Beautiful sights. Inside tours. Opportunity to sit in San Marco's.

Fast pace. Strenuous. Perhaps too much info on these important places in too short a visit. Might be best spread into 2-3 different tours.

Dear Nancy,

thank you for your review! As for your suggestion to split the tour, you booked a combo tour: the same guided visits - Venice walking tour, the Doge’s Palace  and St. Mark’s Basilica Guided Visit - can also be booked separately!

Best regards,
The staff

'Excellent tour'

I was visiting Venice as a cruise-port of call and when I was planning my vacation tours I took tours offered by the cruise company on all the other ports, but decided to take a chance with this one in Venice as it was cheaper than the similar one my cruise offered and I can say that the gamble payed on, as the overall experience on this tour was superior to most of the tours offered by the cruiseship. The tour personel showed on time at the meeting point, they were polite and corteous, the radio equipment worked properly and the guide was excellent.

Dear Luisa Maria,

we are pleased you appreciated the tour but sorry you were not completely satisfied with its organization. Please consider that, on the voucher, we suggest our clients to be at the meeting point 10 minutes before the departure time in order to avoid delays or problems on the spot – but we also clearly indicate the real departure time of the tour – and the duration of the tour includes the whole experience (including the time to check the vouchers and organize the groups) in order to provide a realistic duration of how the whole tour will last.

Best regards,
The staff

This tour was well organized and conducted by an excellent guide. I can't provide any input in how this could be improved.

'Improvements necessary'

We booked the three hours tour. There were two things I did not like at all. One was the really lousy quality of the audio equipment. The tour guide acted surprised, however we had all the same bad quality and they certainly know about it. The other was the organization itself. the tour was a combination of two shorter tours, so we had to stop in between and go through the whole group sorting process again. Not what you expect when you book it. Positive experience was the knowledgeable tourguide - providing you could hear her. Summary: wouldn't do it again
